About Chatham Granite Club
Chatham Granite Club: Celebrating a Legendary Legacy in Kent County
Originally founded in 1862 as the Chatham Curling Club, the Chatham Granite Club on William Street North is one of the oldest active curling clubs in Ontario. After playing on the frozen Thames River for three decades, the club built its current downtown home in 1903. The iconic main ice shed, constructed out of beautiful British Columbia cedar in 1965, remains a cherished local landmark.
The club features five pristine sheets of curling ice, main-floor locker rooms, and a spacious, fully renovated upstairs social lounge and bar. Highly regarded for its competitive pedigree, the club produced Brier teams in 1949 and 1953, including legendary 73-year-old skip Peter Gilbert. Chatham is also dedicated to youth fitness, running an elite elementary school program that introduces over 700 local students to the sport annually.
