About Royal Montreal Curling Club
Royal Montreal Curling Club: North America’s Legendary Gateway to the Ice
Established on January 27, 1807, by a group of passionate Scottish Canadian immigrants who first met at Gillis Tavern, the Royal Montreal Curling Club (French: Club de Curling Royal Montréal) holds the proud title of being the oldest active athletic club in North America. Located at 1850 Boulevard de Maisonneuve Ouest in downtown Montreal, the club is a living museum of sporting history, operating out of a beautiful 1929 clubhouse designed by legendary architects Percy Erskine Nobbs and George Taylor Hyde.
As a true pioneer, the club built Canada’s first indoor ice rink in 1837, forever changing how winter sports were played. It was also closely connected to the founding of the world’s first all-female curling club in 1894, the Ladies’ Montreal Curling Club. Today, the Royal Montreal Curling Club seamlessly blends its rich historic traditions with a vibrant, welcoming modern community. The club offers diverse leagues, world-class coaching, and introductory clinics for new generations of players looking to join a truly historic curling family.
