The 2026 Canadian Senior Curling Championships bring the country’s best curlers aged 50 and over to Saskatoon in December, with separate men’s and women’s competitions running side by side. The two national titles carry real weight: the winning teams earn the right to wear the Maple Leaf at the 2027 World Senior Curling Championships.
Many of the players in this age group are familiar names from the Brier and the Scotties, and the standard of play reflects that. Canada’s senior men have dominated the world stage in recent years, so the new men’s champions will carry high expectations into the world event.
Teams qualify by winning their provincial and territorial senior championships. The 2025 edition in Ottawa featured 14 men’s and 14 women’s teams, split into two pools of seven for the round robin. The top eight advanced to a championship pool, the rest moved to a seeding pool, and the top four went on to single-game semifinals and the final. The full 2026 field will be confirmed as the provincial and territorial playdowns conclude.
The defending champions are Saskatchewan’s Team Bruce Korte, who beat Ontario’s Mike Harris 8-4 in the 2025 men’s final after an 11-1 week, and Ontario’s Team Sherry Middaugh, who went unbeaten at 12-0 and beat Saskatchewan’s Amber Holland 7-5 for the women’s title. Both teams then represented Canada at the 2026 World Seniors in Geneva. There is a local twist: Kory Kohuch, general manager of the host Nutana club, played second for the Korte rink.
The championship is played at the Nutana Curling Club, a Saskatoon institution that first opened its doors in 1930. The club has a long record with national events: it staged the Canadian Seniors in 1999, the 1978 Canadian Mixed, the Canadian Masters in 2009 and 2019, the 1993 TSN Skins Game and, more recently, the 2025 Canadian Under-18 Championships. The province last hosted the senior nationals in Prince Albert in 2008.
The event opens a busy curling winter for Saskatoon, which will also host the 100th edition of the Montana’s Brier in March 2027. For visitors, the city on the South Saskatchewan River offers a compact downtown, riverside trails and plenty of hotels within easy reach of the club.
Ticket details for the championship have not yet been published. Information on admission and passes will be released by Curling Canada closer to the event.
