The 2027 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship is Curling Canada’s national title event for wheelchair curlers. It runs April 19–24, 2027 at the Richmond Curling Centre in British Columbia. The first national wheelchair championship was held in 2004, and the format has stayed largely the same since then. Curling Canada has not yet published prize money or details of any berth at a world event for 2027. It will announce them closer to the date.
This edition is also a turning point. Curling Canada plans to pilot an expanded national championship from 2028, with mixed team, doubles and mixed doubles disciplines. The reason given is that several provinces and territories struggle to field four-person teams. The inaugural National Wheelchair Curling Summit follows the 2027 championship on April 24–25. It will be held in Richmond, with the Richmond Olympic Oval as a partner venue, and there will be a virtual option.
The 2027 team list and schedule have not been announced. Provincial and territorial associations run their own qualifying events over the winter, so the field will be set in the months ahead. Recent national championships have been mixed-gender, four-person events. They have included more than one entry from some provinces, such as British Columbia, which sent two teams in both 2025 and 2026.
Quebec 1 are the defending champions. Skip Carl Marquis, third Sébastien Boisvert, second François Lacourse and lead Johanne Mathieu, from CC Magog, won the 2026 title in Boucherville. Northern Ontario, skipped by Douglas Dean, finished as runners-up. Dean’s rink had won the 2025 title, beating Quebec 1 in the final.
British Columbia has not won the national title since 2015, and Curling Canada has highlighted the chance of a home-ice push. Paralympic medallist Ina Forrest of Spallumcheen and the province’s other wheelchair stars give local fans reason to follow the host region.
The Richmond Curling Centre is an eight-sheet facility founded in 1958. It is regarded as a capable and accessible venue. A capacity figure has not been published. The 2027 championship is the first time the national event has returned to Richmond since 2006, though the city also hosted it in 2005.
The venue has strong wheelchair credentials. It staged the 2023 World Wheelchair Curling Championship and the first World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Championship, held together in March 2023 with athletes from 19 countries. Richmond Winter Club president Tom Wilkinson says the city prides itself on being one of Canada’s most accessible sporting cities.
Richmond sits just south of Vancouver, so fans travelling in will find plenty of accommodation and transport options in the wider region. The Richmond Olympic Oval, a legacy venue from the 2010 Winter Games, is also in the city and will take part in the Summit.
Ticket arrangements for 2027 have not been announced. Details on sales and any packages will be released by Curling Canada and the host committee. Past events at the venue offer a hint: admission to the 2023 world championships in Richmond was free. Spectators watched from the upstairs viewing area, as they did at the club’s provincial wheelchair event in early 2026. Whether the same approach applies in 2027 will be confirmed when the host committee publishes its plans.
