What is at stake

The 2027 Curling Ontario Women’s Championship is the provincial title event for Southern Ontario. It runs alongside the men’s championship from January 10 to 17, 2027. The women’s winner takes Ontario’s place at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Canada’s national women’s championship. The men’s winner goes to the Montana’s Brier. No prize purse has been published.

Format and field

This edition brings a new format, designed by a working group of athletes, coaches, hosts and Curling Ontario staff using competitor feedback and survey data. It replaces the triple knockout and page playoff used from 2024 to 2026.

  • Field: eight teams per division. Five get direct entry through the season-long Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS). How the other three berths are decided has not been detailed.
  • Round robin: every team plays every other team.
  • Playoffs: a single tie-breaker draw, then semi-finals and a final.

The 2026 event had twelve teams: the top eight CTRS teams plus four from an open qualifier. Hailey Armstrong‘s Whitby rink, with Grace Lloyd, Michaela Robert and Rachel Steele, won that title. They beat Danielle Inglis 10-3 in the final in Elmira. Armstrong’s team then played the Scotties in Mississauga as the host province’s entry. The 2027 field has not been confirmed. The qualified teams will be announced once the CTRS berths are settled.

Host city and venue

Games are scheduled for the Cornwall Civic Complex, with its NHL-sized Ed Lumley Arena (opened in 1976). The City of Cornwall and the Cornwall Curling Centre are co-hosting. Hockey capacity at the arena is listed at 4,639 since the 2008 expansion.

The building is no stranger to big events. It hosted the Royal Bank Cup in May 2008 and staged both the Ontario Tankard and the Ontario women’s championship in early 2020. The Curling Centre has a century-plus local tradition behind it and runs the Shorty Jenkins Classic each September, a stop on the international calendar.

For visitors, Cornwall sits on the St. Lawrence River in the far east of Ontario. The Civic Complex is on Water Street East, in Lamoureux Park beside the river. Parking on site has been listed at about 600 spaces.

Tickets
