The 2027 USA Curling Senior Men’s and Women’s National Championships gather the country’s top curlers aged 50 and over in Eveleth, Minnesota, from February 7 to 14, 2027. Two national titles are on the line, and the stakes go beyond bragging rights: the men’s and women’s champions earn the right to represent the United States at the World Senior Curling Championships.
The event has grown steadily in popularity, and recent American senior teams have shown they can compete with the best in the world, which gives the national title extra weight.
Senior nationals are open-entry, with separate men’s and women’s competitions. Registration opened in summer 2026 and closes on December 1, 2026, with no late entries, so the final field will only be known after that deadline. For comparison, the 2026 edition in Wisconsin drew 40 teams, 26 men’s and 14 women’s, with round-robin play spread over two clubs before the playoffs.
Both defending champions have set the bar high. Mike Farbelow beat Hedstrom 10-5 in the 2026 men’s final for his third straight national title, then went on to win gold at the 2026 World Senior Men’s Championship with Rich Ruohonen, Bill Stopera and Darren Lehto, beating Scotland’s defending champions in the final. On the women’s side, Margie Smith claimed a record tenth national title after a final decided by a measure in the last end against a rink that included Olympians Erika Brown and Ann Swisshelm. Smith’s team reached the playoffs at the worlds and finished fourth after losing the bronze-medal game to Canada.
The championships are hosted by Curl Mesabi, whose eight-sheet facility at the RRCC Event Center in Eveleth is described locally as the largest curling facility in the country. The club is no stranger to international curling, having staged the Pan Continental Curling Championships the season before. The organising committee is co-chaired by Craig Doughty and Mike Kolb, and USA Curling’s national team director Phill Drobnick, an Eveleth native, was among those who championed the bid.
Eveleth sits on Minnesota’s Iron Range, and organisers expect the week to bring hundreds of visitors to the Range communities.
Spectator and admission details have not yet been announced. Information on viewing arrangements will be released by the host club closer to the championships.
