About Evergreen Curling Club
Evergreen Curling Club: Oregon’s Only Dedicated Curling Ice
Evergreen Curling Club is the home of curling in the Portland area, operating out of its own facility on SW 5th Street in Beaverton. The club traces its roots to the early 2000s, when Portland-area curlers threw stones on borrowed hockey ice, first at Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver and later at the Lloyd Center rink. At the end of 2012 the club moved into dedicated curling ice in Beaverton, making it the only dedicated curling facility in Oregon and one of very few west of the Rockies.
The building holds three sheets of curling ice and a lounge where the club’s traditions live on: shake hands before the game, and the winners buy the first round. History is part of the culture too; in 2007 members re-created an 1847 curling match at Fort Vancouver in period costume.
The season runs from around the start of October into late April or early May, with the club open daily. Evergreen offers learn-to-curl classes, leagues for experienced and novice curlers, wheelchair curling, a Saturday junior program, corporate events and bonspiels, including the Evergreen Five and Under for newer curlers.
