About Mayfield Curling Club

Mayfield Curling Club: Cleveland’s East Side Curling Since 1962

Mayfield Curling Club has been a fixture of Cleveland’s east side since 1962, when Nels and Lil Nelson, who came from the Cleveland Skating Club, led its founding. After a meeting at the Hermit Club that summer, members pledged $4,500 for an ice-making machine. Curling began outdoors on the Mayfield Country Club grounds in South Euclid, but delays and a cold, snowy winter in 1962–63 led members to put a steel building around the ice. The rink grew from one sheet to three.

When the country club ended the relationship in early 2019, the club built its own home: an 18,000-square-foot, four-sheet facility on Miles Road in Warrensville Heights, opened in 2020. About 150 members now curl year-round in women’s, men’s, mixed, open and junior draws, plus a U5 division for curlers with fewer than five years on the ice. Try Curling events, a four-session New Curler Clinic and a juniors program bring in new players.

The bonspiel calendar includes the Men’s Invitational, the Women’s Bonspiel, the Evergreen Mixed and the Snow Belt U5 Showdown, a national qualifier. Mayfield members have included former USA Curling presidents Bob Whitehead and Chris Moore.
