McCall Curling Club – Sunday Stones by Payette Lake

McCall Curling Club brings curling to McCall, the mountain resort town on the shore of Payette Lake in west-central Idaho. Since 2004 the club has curled on arena ice at the Manchester Ice and Event Centre, the town’s community rink on East Lake Street. Interest surged after the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, and at its early peak the club counted nearly 100 members, making it the second-largest league west of the Mississippi after Seattle.

League play runs on Sundays from December into March, with teams of four playing eight-end games, and the club holds several learn-to-curl sessions each season, supplying the grippers, sliders and other gear newcomers need. Its curlers range from their 20s to their 70s. The 2023–24 season set a participation record, with 101 curlers on 21 teams, and ended with the McCall Cup, played on March 17 and won by the Housewreckers.

Each October the club hosts the Rocktober Spiel, a bonspiel limited to 16 teams that draws curlers from out of state with pool play, a closest-to-the-button contest and a Saturday night party. McCall is a member of the Mountain Pacific Curling Association, alongside the Boise Curling Club.
