About Wine Country Curling Club

Wine Country Curling Club: From Vacaville to Roseville

Wine Country Curling Club brings curling to the Sacramento region of Northern California. The club was formed in Vacaville in 2007 and moved in 2012 to Skatetown Ice Arena in Roseville, which has been its home ever since.

Curling here is arena curling: the club lays out five sheets on Skatetown’s hockey ice on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings. The volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit has around 120 to 125 members of all ages, and its teams have qualified for and medaled at the USA Curling Arena National Championships. Alongside its leagues, the club runs learn-to-curl sessions, junior, senior and adaptive curling, and private and corporate events.

Wine Country’s bonspiels lean into the club’s name. The Jerome Larson Memorial Crush Bonspiel, held over Labor Day weekend, draws 24 teams into pools named Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Malbec and Barbera, with Meritage, Reserve and Vintage brackets. It honors Jerome Larson, the West Coast curling pioneer known as the Johnny Appleseed of arena curling. The club’s second bonspiel, The Barrel, is held in March. Wine Country is a member of USA Curling, the Mountain Pacific Curling region and the U.S. Women’s Curling Association.
