Talkeetna Curling Club: Outdoor Curling Beneath Denali
Talkeetna Curling Club curls in one of the most striking settings in American curling: an outdoor hockey rink in the historic Susitna Valley town of Talkeetna, with snow-covered Denali on the horizon. Curling took root here through annual February weekends organized with curlAK, which combined lessons for elementary-school students, community Learn to Curl sessions and a two-day bonspiel, and the club itself formed around 2021.
The signature event is the Love on the Rocks Talkeetna Bonspiel, hosted by the Talkeetna Youth Hockey Association since 2020 as a fundraiser for youth hockey. The 2025 edition drew a record 22 teams, six of them local and the rest from Fairbanks, Palmer, Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula.
In October 2025 the club made history when Chris Bouch, Nate Bryan, Micah Morrow and Brian Robison, having beaten Palmer in the playdowns, became the first Alaskan team to compete at the USA Curling Arena Club National Championships, and the only team in the field that practices on an outdoor rink at home.
