About Palmer Curling Club
Palmer Curling Club: Arena Curling in the Heart of the Mat-Su Valley
Palmer Curling Club is the curling home of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, playing on arena ice at the Palmer Sports Center, the city-owned facility on East Cope Industrial Way that hosts hockey, curling, pickleball and soccer. The club formed at the end of the 2010s and was in its second season by early 2021, when program director Robert Foxley described it as an arena curling club building the sport in the valley. It plays on five sheets laid out on the rink.
Palmer grew out of the statewide push led by curlAK, the grassroots nonprofit founded by Jessica Schultz to give Alaskans access to equipment and new ways to curl beyond the state’s two dedicated curling facilities; curlAK has pointed to Palmer as one of its success stories. Palmer curlers are regulars on the Alaskan bonspiel circuit, traveling to events such as the Love on the Rocks bonspiel in Talkeetna, and the club’s teams compete in the state’s arena-club playdowns for the national championships.
