Northwest Arkansas Curling Club: A Quarter Century on Jones Center Ice
Northwest Arkansas Curling Club has kept the stones sliding in the Ozarks for more than 25 years, curling on the ice rink at the Jones Center in Springdale, the community recreation campus that has added curling to its skating and hockey programs over its three-decade history. Much of the club’s story runs through Mark Curtis and his wife Susan, experienced Wisconsin curlers who helped build the local curling community after moving to the area; Mark Curtis still runs the curling events and teaches newcomers.
The club’s regular sessions run on Saturday evenings from September through March, with one sheet set aside for experienced curlers and another for teaching, and beginners get an introduction at the start of practice. After the Jones Center redid its ice, curling expanded from two sheets to four. The club also hosts corporate team-building, takes part in the Jones Center’s spring Corporate Games, and joins bonspiels where food and drinks come with the entry fee.
Interest surged during the 2026 Winter Olympics, when a Learn to Curl event at the Jones Center sold out in less than an hour.
