The event and what is at stake

The 2027 Curling Ontario Men’s Championship, long known as the Ontario Tankard, is the provincial title race for men’s teams. It runs January 10–17, 2027, alongside the women’s provincial championship. The winners become Ontario’s representatives at the Montana’s Brier, and the women’s champions go to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The Brier is the national championship, so this week decides who carries the province’s colours there. Prize money has not been published.

Format and field

Curling Ontario has introduced a revised competition structure for 2027, shaped by feedback from athletes, coaches and stakeholders. Each division has eight teams, and five of them get direct entry based on season-long performance in the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS). The route for the remaining berths has not yet been detailed. A full round robin means every team meets every other. A single tie-breaker, the semi-finals and the championship final follow.

The defending champion is Jayden King of Tillsonburg. His rink won the 2026 title in Elmira. In the final he beat defending champion Sam Mooibroek, 9–6. The 2027 field has not been confirmed, and the qualified teams will be announced as the season unfolds.

Host city and venue

The City of Cornwall and the Cornwall Curling Centre are co-hosting, and the games are played at the Civic Complex. The arena inside is the Ed Lumley Arena. The city lists 4,788 fixed seats there. It also lists 928 portable seats, which brings the total to 5,876. Other sources quote smaller figures, so the exact curling configuration will depend on the setup.

Cornwall has hosted this event before. The 2020 Ontario Tankard was held at the Ed Lumley Arena, and John Epping’s team won it. The city has a curling tradition of more than a century. The Cornwall Curling Centre hosts the annual Shorty Jenkins Classic. That event is one of the first tournaments of the World Curling Tour season.

For travelling fans, the arena sits in Lamoureux Park on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Cornwall is on the Ontario–Quebec border in the eastern part of the province.
