About Altamont Curling Club
Altamont Curling Club: Walking Through Canadian History
Located in the rolling hills of the Municipality of Lorne, Manitoba, the Altamont Curling and Skating Rink is an extraordinary historical landmark. Built in 1919 and opened in 1920, it stands as one of the oldest natural ice rinks still operating in Canada. This charming single-sheet venue represents the pure, nostalgic soul of rural Canadian curling.
While normally serving as a natural skating rink, the ice is meticulously converted each winter to host the highly anticipated annual open bonspiel, held on the third full weekend of January. Perfect for history enthusiasts and community-minded players, Altamont offers a warm, timeless welcome in a peaceful small-town setting.
