About Fairbanks Curling Club
Fairbanks Curling Club: Alaska’s Oldest Sports Club, Since 1905
Founded in 1905, the Fairbanks Curling Club is considered the oldest organized sports group in Alaska. Its first curlers played on the frozen Chena River; the clubhouse on Second Avenue went up in 1962, a date preserved in the building’s street number, 1962 2nd Avenue.
The club curls on six sheets of ice and runs entirely on volunteers, with around 250 members who have round-the-clock access. A heated lounge overlooks the ice, with a full bar, a fireplace, ping pong and foosball, while a lower-level lounge puts spectators closer to the play. Admission for spectators is free.
The season runs from early October to early April, with league play on weeknights and a youth program. The calendar is built around signature events: the Rookie Spiel for beginners and the Yukon Title tournament in November, and the International Bonspiel each spring.
