About Capital Curling Club
Capital Curling Club: Bismarck’s Host of National and World Events
Capital Curling Club brought curling to Bismarck in late 1982, when a group of homesick curlers held a series of organizational meetings. Founding members included Tim Lervick, Ken Sambor, Bill Peterson, Dwayne Schmidt, Annette Kinsala, John Gilbertson, Marnell Ringsak, Joe Newman and Jon Mielke. The club curls on four sheets at the VFW All Seasons Arena on North Washington Street, a building enclosed in late 1985 with its ice plant running by fall 1986; the floor and refrigeration system were upgraded in 2016.
More than 400 curlers play across four league nights each week. Juniors from age six through high school curl on Saturday mornings, and the club’s ice is also used for physical education curling by three public high schools.
Few clubs of its size can match Capital’s hosting record. Bismarck has staged the 1993 National Mixed Championships, the 1998 National Men’s and Women’s Championships, the 2002 World Championships, the 2005 National Junior Championships, the 2010 National Senior Women’s, 2012 National Senior Men’s and 2013 National Mixed Doubles championships, the 2015 Women’s and 2017 Men’s Challenge Rounds, the 2016 National Club Championships and the 2019 National U14 Jamboree.
