The event and what is at stake

The Québec Senior Men’s Provincial Championship brings the province’s best curlers aged 50 and over to Sorel-Tracy from March 17 to 21, 2027. The winning rink earns the right to represent Quebec at the Canadian senior championship. That national event in turn decides Canada’s entry at the World Senior Curling Championships. Curling Québec runs the event as part of its Elite Series. No prize purse has been published.

Format and field

Up to 16 teams can enter. In the 2025-26 rules they were split into two pools of eight, with a round robin inside each pool. The top two teams from each pool advanced to a four-team Page playoff, and the 2026 edition in Noranda followed that model. The 2027 schedule has not been published, so the same structure is likely but unconfirmed.

Berths in the published 2025-26 qualification list were assigned as follows:

  • the winner of the provincial circuit final
  • the host club
  • two teams through a points-based qualification process
  • regional spots, including Montréal, Québec, Estrie, Outaouais, Nord-Ouest, Côte-Nord, Est-du-Québec and Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean

The players’ age limit under those rules was 50 or older on June 30 of the year of the Canadian Senior Championships. The 2027 entry list, confirmed teams and defending champion will be announced closer to the event.

Host city and venue

The Club de curling Aurèle-Racine is at 3010 place des Loisirs in the Tracy sector of Sorel-Tracy. The building went up in 1979 and has four sheets. Seating capacity has not been published. The club has a solid record as a host. It staged the 2010 Canadian Junior Curling Championships alongside the nearby Colisée Cardin. It also hosted this same provincial senior championship in February 2017, and it welcomed three provincial events in the 2021-22 season. Curling Québec named it club of the year after that season.

The club has spent heavily ahead of the 2026-27 season. It bought 64 new stones for about $100,000 and a new ice-levelling machine, and its coordinator promises top-quality ice. Local press reports that the best senior teams will be in town for five days.

Sorel-Tracy has around 35,000 residents. It sits where the Richelieu River meets the St. Lawrence, on the edge of Lac Saint-Pierre. Montréal is about 75 km away, which makes the event an easy trip for fans from the metropolitan area. Visitors can fill spare hours with the Biophare and the Maison des Gouverneurs. The Statera multimedia attraction is another option.

Tickets

Ticketing information has not been released yet. Details on admission, any spectator packages and the schedule of draws will be announced by Curling Québec and the host club as the event approaches.
