A new January date for the mixed doubles worlds

The World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship decides the world title in curling’s two-player discipline, with every team made up of one woman and one man. The 2027 edition breaks with tradition: instead of its familiar late-April slot at the end of the season, it is played from 4 to 10 January 2027. Australia come in as the reigning world champions after winning the 2026 title.

Format and field

Since 2020 the championship has been limited to 20 nations: the top 16 from the previous world championship plus four that come through the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event. The qualifier for this cycle is held in Lafayette, Colorado, from 2 to 8 October 2026, and the full list of nations will be settled once it is complete.

Canada will be represented by Serena Gray-Withers and Victor Pietrangelo. The Edmonton–Niagara Falls pairing won the 2026 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship at the Cloverdale Curling Club in Surrey, British Columbia, with a remarkable comeback in the final: trailing 9-7 heading into the eighth end, they beat Alberta’s Zoe Cinnamon and Johnson Tao 10-9 to take the national title, $20,000 and the ticket to the worlds.

Host city and venue

The championship is staged at the Kisakallio Campus in Lohja, Finland, the Olympic and Paralympic Training Centre run by the Sports Institute of Three Campuses. Lohja is one of World Curling’s most trusted hosts, with a relationship going back more than 15 years, and the venue is in the middle of a record season that also includes the World Wheelchair-B and World Junior-B Championships before Christmas and the World Wheelchair and World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Championships in February and March. Organisers have pointed to the environmental benefit of running several championships at one site. Lohja lies in southern Finland, west of Helsinki, whose airport is the obvious gateway for travelling fans.

Tickets

Spectator and ticket information has not yet been published. Details on access to the Kisakallio arena will be released by the local organisers before the January start.
