The road to the 2028 worlds

The World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event 2027 is World Curling’s open-entry qualifier for nations chasing a place at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2028. It is scheduled for April 10–17, 2027, in Winnipeg, Canada.

It is the second of two qualification events squeezed into the 2026–27 season. World Curling’s calendar restructuring moved the mixed doubles world championship to January, with the 2027 edition set for Lohja, Finland, on January 4–10, 2027. The first qualifier of the season, played in Colorado in October 2026, fed that championship; the Winnipeg event looks one step further ahead to 2028.

Format and field

The entry list, the number of competing nations and the number of world championship places on offer in Winnipeg have not yet been announced. As with previous editions, the event is intended for member associations that have not already secured a spot at the next world championship through their results. For a sense of scale, the October 2026 qualifier in Colorado drew 26 nations, who played a round robin followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and medal games.

The Granite Curling Club

The host venue is the Granite Curling Club, Manitoba’s oldest curling institution. Founded in 1880, the nine-sheet club carries 146 years of history and has staged many landmark events, most recently the 2025 Canadian Curling Club Championships. The qualifier also marks World Curling’s return to Winnipeg for the first time since 2003.

The event is expected to bring guests from more than 30 countries to the Manitoba capital, with an estimated economic impact of $1.4 million for the city. For travelling fans, a spring visit to Winnipeg offers the chance to watch international curling in one of the oldest clubs in the country.
