The world wheelchair title returns

The World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2027 decides the world title in the four-player wheelchair discipline. The championship is held only in non-Paralympic years, so the edition in Lohja, Finland, running February 20–27, 2027, is the first since the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

China are the reigning world champions. At the 2025 championship in Stevenston, Scotland, the Chinese team of Wang Haitao, Chen Jianxin, Zhang Mingliang, Li Nana and Zhang Qiang took gold, with Korea winning silver and Canada bronze.

Format and field

Twelve teams compete in Lohja. Places are earned either through results at the previous world championship or via the World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship, where the top three nations move up. That B event is also played in Lohja, from November 22–30, 2026, so the final places in the field will be settled on the same ice three months before the main event. The complete list of qualified nations will be known once the B championship is over.

Kisakallio Campus, Lohja

The host venue is Kisakallio Campus, the Olympic and Paralympic training centre of the Sports Institute of Three Campuses in Lohja. It is a packed season there: Kisakallio is staging five World Curling events in 2026–27. After the World Wheelchair-B Championship in November come the World Junior-B Championships in December and the World Mixed Doubles Championship in January, followed by the wheelchair worlds and, straight afterwards, the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Championship from March 1–8, 2027.

Lohja is no newcomer to international curling, having already hosted World Curling events under an earlier multi-year agreement. The local organising committee has described this season as especially significant because three of its five events are full world championships. Fans planning to follow several events can combine the wheelchair worlds with the wheelchair mixed doubles championship that follows a day later at the same venue.
