About Ocean State Curling Club
Ocean State Curling Club: Rhode Island’s Largest Curling Club
Ocean State Curling Club has been promoting curling in Rhode Island since 2009 and is the state’s largest curling organization. After earlier stints elsewhere in the state, including Middletown, the club has played since 2019 at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink, where volunteers turn hockey ice into curling-ready sheets in fifteen to twenty minutes and league nights typically run four games at once.
League members range from their teens to their eighties, and the club uses delivery sticks so players with limited mobility can stay in the game. Weekly leagues are complemented by regular learn-to-curl events throughout the year, which saw strong demand during the 2026 Winter Olympics. True to curling tradition, teams head out together after games to “broomstack” with their opponents.
The club has also hosted the Grand National Curling Club’s Arena Club Championship, staged at Schneider Arena at Providence College.
