About Ogden Curling Club
Ogden Curling Club: Curling on Utah’s Olympic Ice
Ogden Curling Club was founded in November 1998 by 14 curling enthusiasts at The Ice Sheet on Harrison Boulevard, the arena that would host the curling competition of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Olympic anticipation fueled rapid growth: within months the club had more than 40 members, over 1,000 people took part in its weekly clinics, and its first bonspiel in April 1999 drew 24 teams from across the country.
The Weber County Ice Sheet, opened in 1994, sold 96.7 percent of its tickets during the 2002 Games, with more than 40,000 spectators watching Olympic curling. The club still plays there on arena ice, running league play in the fall and spring, learn-to-curl community sessions and an annual tournament, with around 50 members. When the Park City Curling Club got started in 2006, it borrowed Ogden’s stones.
Ogden returned to the world stage in 2026, when the Ice Sheet hosted the World Men’s Curling Championship from March 27 to April 4, with 13 national teams competing in the building where Olympic curling was played a generation earlier.
