About Nutmeg Curling Club
Nutmeg Curling Club: Fairfield County’s Curling Home Since 1960
Nutmeg Curling Club was formed in the fall of 1960 and spent its first decades on borrowed ice, leasing time at the Crystal Ice Palace in Norwalk and later curling in Darien. In October 2006 the club finally found a permanent home: a dedicated three-sheet curling facility at Bridgeport’s Wonderland of Ice, made possible by years of fundraising and contributions from members’ estates.
The club draws curlers from across Fairfield County, from Shelton and Weston to Wilton, Darien, Greenwich and Stamford. By its 50th anniversary in 2010 it counted 189 members, including dozens of schoolchildren, and it has long run open houses for young players and a High School Curling League. The season runs from October through April, with trained icemakers keeping the sheets in shape.
The all-volunteer club welcomes newcomers through learn-to-curl sessions and a five-week beginner league. Olympic winters bring a rush: during the 2026 Games, extra learn-to-curl classes sold out, 90 spots filled within two hours, and 2018 Olympic gold medalist John Shuster visited the club.
