About Orlando Curling Club
Orlando Curling Club: Bringing Curling to Central Florida
Orlando Curling Club was established in 2014 with a simple mission: bring curling to the people of Central Florida. Founder Bryan Pittard caught the curling bug watching the 2010 Winter Olympics, and the club’s first learn-to-curl event, held in August 2015 at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den in Orlando, sold out. Around 90 percent of the club’s early equipment was donated by the curling community, including twelve used stones from the Atlanta Curling Club.
Curling in Florida means battling heat and humidity, and the club plays on arena ice that volunteers convert from hockey use. Today its home is the Ice Factory of Central Florida in Kissimmee, and it has also curled at the Daytona Ice Arena. Members include many transplants from northern states alongside Floridians who discovered the game through the club, with about 60 members by 2020.
The program runs year-round: Learn2Curl and Curling 101 classes for beginners, practice ice, pickup games and league play, with stick curling available for players who cannot use a traditional delivery. Revenue from introductory classes goes back into the club’s operations and equipment.
