San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club: Dedicated Ice in Oakland

San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club is the oldest curling club in California’s Bay Area, founded on March 13, 1958, in Mountain View. For decades the club curled on rented arena ice around the region, and in March 2022 it opened its own dedicated five-sheet curling facility on Enterprise Way in Oakland, near the Oakland airport, with red, yellow and blue rocks.

Bay Area curlers have done well on the national stage, winning gold medals at the USCA Arena Curling National Championships in 2015 and 2016 in women’s events and a men’s silver in 2018. Since 2008 the club has hosted the Golden Gate Bonspiel every Memorial Day weekend, and in October 2013 it welcomed the World Curling Federation’s Olympic Celebration Tour featuring 2010 Olympic silver medalist Carolyn McRorie.

Learn-to-Curl sessions run throughout the year, with extra programming whenever the Winter Olympics put curling on television. The club is a non-profit and a member of the Mountain Pacific Curling Association and USA Curling.
