Hollywood Curling: Growing the Game in Southern California Since 2007

Hollywood Curling has been growing the sport in Southern California since 2007. The volunteer-run nonprofit plays on rented hockey ice at the Valley Ice Center on Van Nuys Boulevard in Panorama City, in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. It returned there in February 2024; the rink was one of the club’s original homes, and over the years Hollywood Curling has also played at Ice Station Valencia.

Membership has risen and fallen with the Olympic cycle, peaking at around 170 after the 2010 Vancouver Games, and the club has welcomed thousands of participants in all. Some members have gone on to regional, national and international competition. True to its name, the club has also used star power: a 2013 charity match featured actors Wil Wheaton and Tracey Gold.

Newcomers start at Sunday-evening learn-to-curl sessions covering delivery, sweeping and basic game flow, after which they are ready for the club’s beginner leagues. Hollywood Curling also offers youth and adaptive curling, with delivery aids for wheelchair users and curlers with limited mobility. It is a member of the Mountain Pacific Curling Association.
