Sioux Falls Curling: National Medals from a Hockey-Rink Home

Sioux Falls Curling brings the sport to South Dakota’s largest city. The club plays on arena ice at the Scheels IcePlex, a rink it shares with hockey and figure skating, where four sheets are marked out for curling. With the ice busy in the heart of winter, its season is built around spring and fall leagues, with weekly draws on Sunday afternoons and evenings and on Monday and Wednesday nights, plus spring leagues for kids as well as adults.

The club has quickly made its mark beyond the city. At the Arena National Championships in Eveleth, Minnesota, in November 2023, three Sioux Falls teams qualified, and Team Weber, skipped by Austin Weber with Mike Johnson, Nick Andrajack and Adam Craghead, came home with the men’s silver medal.

Learn-to-curl nights bring newcomers onto the ice with equipment provided, and in June the club hosts the Siouxperspiel, an open bonspiel at the Scheels IcePlex that draws teams from across the Midwest. Broomstacking, with the winners buying the first round for the losers, is a club tradition. Sioux Falls Curling belongs to USA Curling’s Dakota Territory region.
