About Wauwatosa Curling Club
Wauwatosa Curling Club: A Century of Curling in Hart Park
Wauwatosa Curling Club threw its first stones in 1921 in a shed at the Stickney Field Club in Wauwatosa, on Milwaukee’s western edge. In 1925 the club moved to Hart Park on the Menomonee River, and in 1941 it settled into the new Muellner Building, a WPA project that housed the first artificial indoor curling ice in Wisconsin. The building earned historic landmark status in 2012 and reopened after a $5 million renovation in 2024 that revealed its barrel-vaulted timber ceiling over four sheets of dedicated ice.
Tosa has a strong women’s tradition: the Wauwatosa Granites curled separately until the groups merged in 1989-90, and the club was a founding member of the U.S. Women’s Curling Association and hosted the first U.S. women’s bonspiel. Pam Oleinik won bronze at the 2007 World Senior Championships, and a Tosa junior team took the 2017 U18 national title. Membership typically runs 350 to 375, with Tosa Juniors, adaptive curling for veterans and blind or visually impaired curlers, Try Curling and corporate events.
Life on a floodplain has tested the club. A 1998 flood wrecked the lower-level clubroom, and the August 2025 flood destroyed the basement gathering space, locker room and kitchen. The season started three weeks late, and in March 2026 the club still hosted its 84th Men’s Invitational Bonspiel with 32 teams.
