Kettle Moraine Curling Club: Five Sheets and National Hosting in Hartland

Kettle Moraine Curling Club has been part of the curling scene west of Milwaukee for more than six decades. Its clubhouse on Oakwood Road in Hartland, in Waukesha County’s lake country, holds five sheets of dedicated curling ice, and the club curls seven days a week during the season. Membership is over 200.

The club takes pride in its ice. Volunteer ice technician Larry Laux, who has traveled the world perfecting his craft, gives Kettle Moraine what club leaders call some of the best ice Wisconsin has to offer. That reputation, and hundreds of volunteers, have brought national events to Hartland: the club hosted the USA Curling Wheelchair Mixed Doubles National Championship in 2021 and again in December 2022, adding a new ramp, railing and automated doors to improve accessibility.

Weekly league play is complemented by weekend bonspiels, including a 5-and-Under event for newer curlers, and by Learn to Curl clinics open to people of all ages and abilities, taught by veteran instructors such as Craig Sharkus, who has more than 40 years on the ice.
