Hazlet Curling Club: Beating the Odds with Eco-Friendly Innovation

Nestled in the southwestern village of Hazlet, Saskatchewan, the Hazlet Curling Club operates inside the local Hazlet Rink Complex. In 2010, this small community made Canadian sports history by retrofitting their rink with an artificial ice plant powered entirely by a 75kw wind turbine, offsetting operational costs and becoming the first wind-powered rink complex in Canada.

Operating from mid-November to March, the club hosts popular recreational leagues, school physical education programs, and high-spirited regional bonspiels. Complete with a newly renovated rental lounge and an exceptionally strong volunteer base, Hazlet Curling Club represents the very best of grassroots resilience and rural cooperative pride.
