Vikingland Curling Club: Two Decades of Curling in Alexandria

Vikingland Curling Club is the curling home of Alexandria, the lakes-country city in west-central Minnesota whose Viking heritage gives the club its name. The club was founded in 2005 by Nancy Haggenmiller and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025. It is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported by dues, fundraising and sponsors.

Vikingland curls on arena ice in the west rink of the PrimeWest Health Runestone Community Center, laying out five sheets with room for 40 players per session. Play runs on Wednesday nights and Thursday mornings.

Each fall opens with learn-to-curl sessions in early October, followed by an instructional league and then the regular Wednesday night league, which is open to all skill levels. The club also runs an open league, a youth league and instructional youth curling for ages 10 to 18, and hosts group and rental events. Its signature bonspiel is the Authentic Runestone Spiel, paired with the Little Ole Spiel. Vikingland is a member of USA Curling and the Minnesota Curling Association.
