About Merrimack Valley Curling Club

Merrimack Valley Curling Club: Southern New Hampshire’s League Club

Merrimack Valley Curling Club is a league club for curlers across southern New Hampshire and the Merrimack Valley, playing its games on the dedicated curling ice of the Nashua Country Club on Fairway Street in Nashua. The club dates to 2006 and grew out of a “paper” club, the Greater Lowell Curling Club from neighboring Massachusetts, before settling into its rented ice time at Nashua.

The club is run entirely by volunteers and is a registered nonprofit whose stated purpose is to promote and support the sport of curling. Membership has climbed steadily: the club counted 86 members in 2018 and about 120 by 2026, with league play spread across Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings. Leagues are open to adults 21 and over, and experienced members make a point of coaching newcomers through their first ends.

Olympic years bring a rush of interest. In February 2018, as the U.S. men’s team won gold in PyeongChang, a Merrimack Valley open house at the Nashua Country Club drew more than 100 visitors from across New England. The ice itself is carefully temperature- and humidity-controlled and pebbled for sweeping, with a viewing area overlooking the houses.
