About Roadrunner Curling Club
Roadrunner Curling Club: Curling in the Tunnel at Albuquerque’s Outpost
Roadrunner Curling Club is New Mexico’s curling club, a nonprofit founded in Albuquerque in 2017 by James Brickey. It started as a MeetUp group organizing Olympic watch parties and got its own stones in November 2017, just in time for the surge of interest that followed the U.S. men’s gold medal in 2018.
The club curls at Outpost Ice Arenas on Tramway Boulevard in the city’s Northeast Heights, in an unusual setting: two “tunnels” connect the arena’s hockey rinks, and with hydraulically operated corner boards they become two sheets of curling ice that can be used while other skating goes on. That quirk inspired the club’s Holiday in the Tunnel bonspiel, first held in December 2025.
With more than 60 members, Roadrunner runs a five-week Thursday Night Instructional League for newcomers and recreational Sunday and Tuesday leagues where curlers sign up as teams or individuals. Learn to Curl classes and private events round out the calendar, and all equipment is provided. Teams also travel to compete outside Albuquerque.
