Buffalo Curling Club: Four Sheets in the Old Buffalo China Factory
Buffalo Curling Club carries on a tradition that reaches back to the 1800s, when Scottish-style bonspiels were played in Delaware Park. An earlier Buffalo club curled for decades in Amherst near Sheridan Drive until its property was sold in 1982. The modern club was revived through the efforts of Danielle Buchbinder and fellow enthusiasts, curling first on a pad at RiverWorks from late 2013 and formally relaunching in 2014.
In January 2017 the club moved into the historic Buffalo China factory near Seneca Street and Bailey Avenue in South Buffalo, transforming the industrial building into a dedicated curling facility with four sheets. Its membership has grown into the hundreds, and the ice is busy seven days a week from October through April.
The volunteer-run nonprofit offers leagues for every skill level, Learn to Curl lessons, a youth program for kids as young as eight, an adaptive league and a program for veterans, alongside bonspiels and group rentals. The club is a member of the Grand National Curling Club.
