America’s flagship curling championship

The 2027 USA Curling Men’s and Women’s National Championships run from January 24 to 30, 2027, at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex in West Des Moines, Iowa. It is the country’s marquee curling event, and the prize is the biggest in the domestic game: the men’s and women’s champions represent the United States at the 2027 World Men’s and World Women’s Championships. For the men, that means a trip to Saint John, New Brunswick, for the first world championship in the new 18-team format.

Format and field

Eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams compete in separate draws. Each division plays a full round robin, with four games on the ice at once during round-robin sessions, to decide the playoff places, and both finals are scheduled for Saturday, January 30.

Teams earn their places through several pathways. One route is the U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s Nationals Qualifier at Glacial Ridge Curling in Willmar, Minnesota, on December 17 to 20, 2026, which sends three teams of each gender straight to the nationals. The complete field is expected to be set in late December 2026. USA Curling has promised a mix of Olympians familiar to sports fans and talented up-and-coming teams.

The defending champions are Team John Shuster, who beat Andrew Stopera’s rink with last rock in an extra end of the 2026 final in Charlotte, and Team Delaney Strouse, who defeated Elizabeth Cousins for the women’s title. Shuster went on to reach the bronze-medal game at the 2026 World Men’s Championship in Ogden, Utah, while Strouse represented the U.S. at the world women’s event in Calgary.

Host city and venue

This is the first time the modern MidAmerican Energy RecPlex has hosted USA Curling’s flagship national event. The championship arrives as interest in the sport is running high after the Olympics, and the local curling community is working towards a full-time curling facility in the Des Moines area. West Des Moines sits in the metro area of Iowa’s capital, and local tourism officials expect competitors, families, fans and media from across the country to fill hotels and restaurants during championship week.

Tickets went on sale in July 2026 and are sold online through the RecPlex’s ticketing partner. Options include:

The opening session and opening ceremonies on Sunday, January 24, are a Dollar Night, with tickets priced at $1.
