The title decider of pro curling’s newest league

Rock League Season 2 – Championship Weekend is the playoff finale of the professional team curling league run by The Curling Group, the company that also owns the Grand Slam of Curling. The weekend is set for April 15–18, 2027 and decides which of the six franchises lifts the league trophy. In the inaugural season, the champions took home US$100,000, with an additional US$5,000 for the most valuable player; prize money for 2027 has not yet been published.

Format and teams

The league brings together six franchises of ten players each – five men and five women: Maple United and Shield Curling Club from Canada, Alpine Curling Club and Northern United from Europe, Frontier Curling Club from the USA and Typhoon Curling Club from the Asia-Pacific region. In the first season their captains included Rachel Homan, Brad Jacobs, Alina Pätz, Bruce Mouat, Korey Dropkin and Chinami Yoshida. Season 2 rosters have not yet been released.

In Season 1, every match consisted of three games played simultaneously – men’s, women’s and mixed doubles – with one point for a match win and a half-point bonus for a clean sweep. Four-player games last seven ends and mixed doubles eight, under tight thinking-time limits, and tied games are settled by a draw to the button. The top four teams advanced to playoffs using the same three-game format. The regular season of Season 2 visits Moose Jaw, Utica, Ottawa and Red Deer before the playoffs.

Shield Curling Club, captained by Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs, are the defending champions. They beat Typhoon Curling Club two games to one in the first final in Toronto, clinched when Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel put his stone on the button in a mixed doubles draw-off.
