About Kalamazoo Curling Club
Kalamazoo Curling Club: From Eight Teams to the Biggby Ice Cube
Kalamazoo Curling Club is southwest Michigan’s home for curling, a club founded in 2008 by a group of people who set out to build community, foster camaraderie and promote competition through the roaring game. The first season, in the fall of 2008, started with eight teams; a year later there were already 13.
The club quickly made a name for itself nationally. Kalamazoo hosted the U.S. National Championships in 2010 and 2019, stepped in on short notice to stage the 2023 Mixed Doubles Nationals, and its teams won medals at the USA Curling Arena National Championships in 2013 and 2014. From 2015 the club rented space for most of the season at the BIGGBY Coffee Ice Cube on Sports Drive, just off I-94, and turned the hockey surface into five sheets of curling-specific ice. In 2025 the arena’s owners moved hockey leagues into that space, and the club, already working toward a standalone facility of its own, now runs its leagues on Monday and Tuesday nights at the Ice Cube.
The season includes youth and adult leagues and learn-to-curl sessions for newcomers. The signature event is the Beerspiel, first held in 2015, which draws teams from across the United States to Kalamazoo.
