Kansas City Curling Club: Four Decades and a Dedicated Home on I-70

Kansas City Curling Club has been promoting the sport across the Greater Kansas City metro since 1987. Its path to a permanent home was a long one. The club began at the Ice Chateau in Overland Park, moved to the Crown Center Ice Terrace and went dormant in 1995, before being reconstituted in 2003 at Pepsi Ice Midwest. In 2011 it moved to the Line Creek Community Center in the Northland.

The big step came in 2021, when the club completed construction of its own dedicated curling facility in Blue Springs, along I-70 on the east side of the metro. It is the only dedicated curling facility within 350 miles, and it includes a 3,000-square-foot event space. More than 9,000 Kansas Citians have tried curling with the club since 2003, and membership topped 200 in the 2023-24 season.

Leagues run in fall, winter and spring alongside Learn to Curl classes, open play, coaching and practice ice, and corporate and private rentals. The club hosts three bonspiels: the BBQ Bonspiel, which regularly sells out and draws teams from around the country, a “5 and Under” event for newer curlers, and an Open. In 2023-24 all three sold out with 24 teams each.
