About Broomstones Curling Club
Broomstones Curling Club: Wayland’s Four Sheets and an Olympic Alumnus
Broomstones Curling Club opened on November 2, 1968, in a wooded corner of Wayland, west of Boston. It was built by curlers from the Wellesley and Weston country clubs who wanted ice of their own; Brae Burn joined in 1978, and the three arches in the club logo still honor those founding clubs. Broomstones became an independent club in 1992 while keeping its component clubs alive.
The building holds four sheets of dedicated ice, and with nearly 500 members Broomstones ranks among the largest curling clubs in the country, with a waiting list that has at times approached 1,000 names. Members play in 17 leagues, and the club runs junior and college curling programs, new-curler training and corporate rentals.
Broomstones has staged a run of national events, including the 2011 U.S. Senior Championships, the 2012 U.S. Mixed Doubles Championship, the 2019 USA College Curling National Championship and the 2023 USA Junior National Championships. Its alumni include Southborough native Korey Dropkin, who won mixed doubles silver at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy while more than 50 members watched together at the club, and Shelly Dropkin, a 2022 World Senior Championships silver medalist.
