About Cape Cod Curling Club
Cape Cod Curling Club: Falmouth’s Home of the July Summerspiels
Cape Cod Curling Club was founded in 1969 by Dr. David Dewees and a small band of enthusiasts who, at the start, had never curled. The group first played at the Falmouth Ice Arena before moving into its own building in March 1975, a facility the club bought outright in 1979. The three-sheet club in Falmouth remains the curling home of Cape Cod.
Cape Cod is best known for doing something most curling clubs cannot: keeping ice in summer. Every July the club sponsors three bonspiels, the mixed, women’s and men’s Summerspiels, which draw teams from across the United States and Canada to the Cape at the height of the vacation season. The rinks in those fields include clubs from around New England, and the events have become a fixture of the off-season calendar.
The club’s ice also played a part in teaching the sport nationally, when the U.S. Curling Association chose the Falmouth facility as the filming location for its orientation and training video on curling.
