About Chicago Curling Club
Chicago Curling Club: Northbrook’s Curling Tradition Since 1948
Chicago Curling Club grew out of a group of curlers at Indian Hill Country Club in the winter of 1947-48 and was founded in 1948 by Hughston McBain. A women’s division followed on December 15, 1948, organized at Skokie Country Club as an autonomous body. The club curls on Dundee Road in Northbrook, about 15 miles north of downtown Chicago, in a dedicated four-sheet building with locker rooms, a full kitchen, dining room and social space. A small room in the clubhouse holds the American Curling History Museum.
The season runs from October into spring, with men’s, women’s, mixed, senior, novice and open play, Learn to Curl instruction, private group events and junior curling through Second City Curling. Broomstacking after games, a summer Cornspiel, a golf outing and opening and closing celebrations keep members together year-round.
The bonspiel calendar is one of the Midwest’s busiest: an Open Bonspiel in October, a Senior Men’s Bonspiel in December, the Men’s Bonspiel and the women’s Gloamin’ Gaels in January, and a mixed bonspiel in February of odd-numbered years. The club also hosted the 2010 U.S. Mixed National Championship.
