Chisholm Curling Club: Iron Range Curling and the Serrano Spiel
Chisholm Curling Club has been part of Minnesota’s Iron Range curling scene since 1961. The club curls on four sheets of dedicated ice in Chisholm, the mining town on the Mesabi Range, and it sits alongside neighboring Range clubs in Hibbing and Buhl.
The club is best known for its junior bonspiel. Started in 1963 by Bill Loushine and now known as the Serrano Memorial Junior Bonspiel in tribute to Chico Serrano, the event draws more than 30 youth teams a year in competitive and beginners divisions, with rinks traveling from Duluth, Bemidji, Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Brainerd and Chaska. A Draw the Button contest is held in Loushine’s honor, and local curling clubs, veterans groups and the Loushine family help support the weekend.
