About Two Harbors Curling Club
Two Harbors Curling Club: North Shore Curling Since 1963
Two Harbors Curling Club is the curling home of Two Harbors, the Lake Superior harbor town on Minnesota’s North Shore. The club was founded in 1963 by local curlers who had been driving to Duluth to play, among them Jim Osbakken. Its first home was a converted warehouse near the ore docks, followed in the late 1960s by a three-sheet club on Highway 2 and 20th Avenue. That building was lost to fire during the 1991 Halloween snowstorm, and the club rebuilt on the north end of town, next to Lakeview National Golf Course.
Today Two Harbors curls on four sheets of dedicated curling ice. Its curlers have reached the national stage: the Halden rink represented Minnesota at the U.S. Men’s Championship in 1970 and again in 1974, and Jim and Val Osbakken played in three Mixed National Championships in the 1970s.
The season runs from November through March, with league play Monday through Thursday evenings, KidsCurl and junior curling for young players, and a largely volunteer-run operation. The club once hosted the Two Harbors Men’s International Bonspiel, which drew teams from Canada and across the United States, and its signature event today is the Jim Osbakken Memorial Open Bonspiel each January.
