Peachtree Curling Association: Georgia’s Only Dedicated Curling Ice
Peachtree Curling Association runs Georgia’s only dedicated curling facility, tucked behind the Marietta Ice Center in East Cobb. The club was established in 2015, when more than 40 volunteers converted a vacant youth hockey rink into a curling house with three sheets, kept at about 45 degrees in the building and 25 degrees on the ice.
The volunteer-run nonprofit has about 70 to 75 members who play a 32-week league season from October through May; the building closes for the summer. Curling 101 clinics on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons introduce newcomers, Curling 201 sessions help them progress, and the club also runs wheelchair curling clinics, youth holiday camps, birthday parties and corporate events. Members range in age from children to curlers in their eighties.
The 2018 Winter Olympics put the club in the spotlight: Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jamie Korab led clinics in Marietta, and members gathered for a midnight watch party as the U.S. men won gold against Sweden.
