Palmetto Curling Club: Curling in Upstate South Carolina

Palmetto Curling Club was founded in 2010 to promote curling in Upstate South Carolina. The club plays on arena ice at the Greenville County Pavilion Recreation Complex on Scottswood Road in Taylors, just outside Greenville, and is a member of the Grand National Curling Club.

Weekly leagues run in the fall and spring, and in recent seasons each has drawn 55 to 65 curlers, supplemented by free skills-and-drills practice sessions. Open houses and learn-to-curl evenings are the club’s front door; club president Alison Roark, a Furman University biology professor, first came to one in 2014 intending only to take a few photos. During the 2018 Winter Olympics the club’s open houses drew a special guest, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jamie Korab, who helped coach newcomers on the ice.
