About Great Smoky Mountains Curling Club
Great Smoky Mountains Curling Club: Sunday Curling in Knoxville
The Great Smoky Mountains Curling Club has brought curling to Knoxville and East Tennessee since 2004. The nonprofit club plays on arena ice at the Ice Chalet on Lebanon Street, tucked behind The Fresh Market in the Bearden neighborhood, laying out five sheets on the hockey rink every Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
League play runs in three main seasons, fall from September to November, winter from January to March and spring from March to May, with occasional summer leagues, and offerings range from a beginner league to balanced leagues for more experienced teams. The club provides brooms and sliders, keeps league nights at around $20, and runs regular Learn to Curl sessions as well as private two-hour events for companies, schools and community groups. Its signature event is the Scruffy City Bonspiel, held each December, and local station WBIR has featured the club in its “Curling in the Smokies” coverage.
Long affiliated with the Great Lakes Curling Association, the club joined the Grand National Curling Club in 2023, and membership dues now include both the GNCC and the United States Women’s Curling Association. Members also take the sport into the community, staging floor-curling demonstrations at city events at Chilhowee Park and the Regal Celebration of Lights.
