Hibbing Curling Club: Home of the Iron Range’s Last Chance Bonspiel

Hibbing Curling Club is a cornerstone of winter on Minnesota’s Iron Range. The club curls inside the city’s Memorial Building, where it runs a seven-sheet curling facility with a clubroom lounge, bar, concessions and locker rooms, one of the largest curling layouts in the state.

Members can curl every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. depending on the league schedule, with leagues for seniors, juniors, men, women and mixed teams, instructional leagues, and 10 to 12 club events a year.

The highlight is the Last Chance International Bonspiel, the season-ending event and the last survivor of the Iron Range’s bonspiel heyday, when Virginia had the Early Bird and Eveleth the Spring Spiel. Played across the club’s sheets and the neighboring Hibbing Memorial Arena, it reached its 70th edition in 2026 with 96 teams; the 2024 event drew 92 teams from both U.S. coasts, Canada and the Northland. Olympic champion John Shuster has won it five times, four of them in a row. The bonspiel brings visitors to the town’s restaurants and hotels and generates most of the club’s operating revenue.
