Glenboro Curling Club: Leading the Way in Geothermal Innovation
Located on Railway Avenue in the vibrant village of Glenboro, Manitoba, the Glenboro Curling Club is a proud symbol of rural innovation and environmental sustainability. In late 2006, the club gained national recognition by replacing its aging freon setup with a state-of-the-art $150,000 geothermal heating and cooling system, drilling 36 holes at 37 meters deep to freeze the ice using heat transferred directly from the earth.
The energy-efficient, eco-friendly system ensures perfect, highly consistent ice conditions for the club’s seasonal leagues, running from mid-October to March. Affiliated with CurlManitoba’s West 2 region, Glenboro runs active men’s, women’s, and junior leagues, and is famous for hosting its massive annual March bonspiel on eight sheets of combined arena and curling ice.
