Capreol Curling Club: Celebrating Nearly a Century of Resilience
Located at 1 Stull Street in the historic railway town of Capreol, Ontario (now part of Greater Sudbury), the Capreol Curling Club is a historic winter sports icon. Following a devastating fire that destroyed the town’s original community arena in September 1944, dedicated club members quickly organized to rebuild the structure, opening a dedicated curling rink in January 1945 to offer players the best ice surface in the region.
The facility features a four-sheet indoor ice surface and a warm, inviting community hall that frequently hosts local dances, weddings, and corporate banquets. In early 2022, the club faced a massive financial challenge when its annual insurance premiums skyrocketed to over $22,000, but the fierce loyalty and fundraising power of its members successfully kept the historic sheets open for play.
